Apple is getting conservative or at least pretending they are.
According to CNET and other sources, Apple has gotten rid of more than 5,000 Iphone applications that “contain sexual content”.
According to the post, Apple will not accept applications with:
- images of women in bikinis
- images of men in bikinis
- images of skin
- silhouettes indicating that the app includes sexual images
- sexual connotations or innuendo
- sexually arousing content
Apple's reason for the culling of the applications was too many customer complaints, but I would wager that Apple will soon receive an equal or greater number of complaints about the applications being removed in the first place. According to the CBS blog, some of the apps were really controversial to begin with as in the case of the app that broadcast pornographic images of a 15-year-old.
I also have to wonder how the makers of the applications that were less controversial (which are probably most of the apps) are reacting to this news, as the developers took the time, effort, and money to develop the applications specifically for the Iphone in the first place.
