While I’ve never actually called a sex phone operator (really, I haven’t), I’ve always been curious about who is actually on the other side of the phone- are the women (and men) “working” the phone lines really as incredibly sexy as the callers imagine? The progressive magazine “Mother Jones”  recently had a photo essay with behind the scenes photos of the actual sex phone operators, with brief quotes about their experiences in the business.

The most surprising picture was of a woman approaching middle-age with a toddler in front of her- in the interview with the photographer, she spoke about one of her favorite clients- a man with a scatological fetish who was surprised that his phone sex operator was a vegan. I guess that means the two are decidedly NOT mutually exclusive.
